Received an unwanted gift card this Christmas that you are unlikely to use? This website lets you flog it instead…

Thousands of Britons will have received a gift card this Christmas which will end up never being spent due to inertia or dislike for the retailer it is for, a study suggests.

Roughly £300million worth of gift vouchers go unspent each year, according to a report by the UK Gift Card and Voucher Association.

Many leave them languishing in wallets and purses, with six per cent of vouchers going unused each year, according to a recent government report. In 2013, some £2.5billion worth of gift cards and vouchers were sold in UK retail stores as gifts.

Now an app, which allows users to sell gift cards for cash to bargain hunters looking to snap them up at a discount, is expecting to see bumper traffic in the aftermath of Christmas.

Zeek, which launched at the end of 2014 in the UK, already has 100,000 users. It estimates nearly half of Britons receive more than one gift card a year…read more.
